    Description

    Description
In May 1940, a radical change in the system of military ranks took place. For the combined arms senior command staff and senior command staff of the arms of the armed forces, as well as for the higher commandant’s staff (the commanding military-economic and administrative staff are named in the Decree and Order of the NPO), general ranks are introduced to replace the former.
The ranks were introduced Major General, Lieutenant General, Colonel General, Army General, Marshal of the Soviet Union.
At the same time, the military rank "brigade commander" and, accordingly, the insignia of this rank have disappeared. Depending on the position, yesterday’s brigade commanders were assigned either the rank of colonel or major general. However, the recertification process dragged on until the war, and back in 41 years it was possible to meet commanders with combig rhombuses in buttonholes.
By order of the NPO No. 212 of July 13, 1940, a new form and insignia are introduced for generals. The most noticeable change in the shape was colored stripes on trousers (on headdresses the Red Army star was replaced with a round cockade (the star became only the main element of the cockade).
The buttonholes of the generals become the same in shape on all types of clothing (like an overcoat).
Soviet size- 52/3 (measurements on photo)
